| In terms of 4K and 2K projection, what is available today? |

2K/HD DLP Cinema™ projection is the only field-proven projection technology today for digital cinema. While much progress has been made with 4K projectors, 4K technology requires further development and field testing before it's ready for digital cinema. In June of 2006, Sony demonstrated a lab-prototype 4K projector that lit a 52-foot screen. (In comparison, there were demonstrations in the same time period of newer 2K projectors lighting up 70-foot screens.) While the progress made on 4K technology has been impressive, open comparisons to film projection have yet to be made, technical issues such as convergence remain, and extensive field trials are only starting to take place.
Debate also exists on the need for 4K. Is there a consumer conceivable difference? Is it worth spending more for a quality level only a few percentage of the audience will even notice? |
