The Following is the Media Format Information Sheet for Media Distribution of slide ad audio on MINI DISK.

Domestic SD (Standard) Mini Disk cartridges are used. [NOT HD (High Density) CARTRAGES]

They are recorded onto the Mini Disks in standard mode Stereo.

MINI DISKS CAN BE EDITED USING YOUR MINI DISK PLAYER

Via the Mini Disk Player interface, you can Delete/Move tracks and Remove/Insert track markers.

This allows you to FIX any problems that might be on a Mini Disk. (Apart from missing Audio)
Some examples

  • A slide is missing. - Delete the track and report the fault.
  • A track marker is missing. - Insert a track marker.
  • A track marker is in the wrong place. - Delete the track marker and insert a new one in the correct location.

Please see the RESOURCES section of the d-cinema.com.au web site for manuals for common Mini Disk Players used by Cinemas in Australia. Mini Disk Layout

The minidisk is laid out in the following way.

  1. Mini Disk PLAY.
  2. Track 1: 6 seconds silence track.
  3. Track 2: 1 second of silence before audio. This track is usually a Cinema Intro track involving multiple slides. As such, track markers will be inserted throughout this track. NOTE: See FAQ "Curtain Time" for more information regarding issues to do with start of audio ad Curtain Raising.
  4. Tracks following: Ad AUDIO, 1 second of silence before audio. NOTE; Slide ads can consist of two slides, as such a track marker will be placed in an appropriate location during the Audio.
  5. Last track; One second after the last track, the mini disk will reach END OF DISK.

Mini Disk Players and your Automation System.

The following is general automation information and should only be considered a guide. Most cinemas have specific needs.

Mini Disk Players talk to the Automation system via RS232.

  1. Automation sends Play to Mini Disk.
  2. Track 1, 6 second silence track plays.
  3. Mini Disk hits track 2, sends TRACK CHANGE back to Automation. LOAD FIRST SLIDE.
  4. Each additional TRACK CHANGE loads next Slide.
  5. "END OF DISK" signals start 35mm projector. Leave last slide in Slide projector (For the Audience to look at) until up to speed, Switch to projector. Reset Slide projector. Ready for next show.

Can I make my own Mini Disks

If you have the right equipment, Yes, however, it is not cheap.

With the right equipment you can record into your computer and out again. Once in your computer you can utilise Audio Editing Software to make your changes.

Note, when recording back to the Mini Disk, you will have to Insert the track markers manually.
