Digital Cinema Installation Completed
Using the Digital Projector Automation software created by digitAll Pty Ltd, the Digital projector systems at the Jam Factory and Crown Cinemas were upgraded in August 2005.
The installation was of the software only, with minimal cost to the client. The upgrade included six major enhancements over the system provided by the previous vendor;
-
Playback Video and High Definition Content
Firstly the Village slide was replaced with a high definition (HD) mpeg2 opening animation. The system now capable of play animated advertisements, as well as live action video. The intermixing of multiple formats (PAL, NTSC, High Def, Images, and Flash Animation) is supported within the playback unit, and the software does all the reformation required for the projector, on the fly.
-
Image Scaling & Positioning
Due to positioning the projectors, and lens issues, many of the screens were unable to have the projected image correctly positioned on the screen. Many advertisers were losing important data (Address etc.) off the side of the screen. The new software allows for the configuring of size and placement of the image projected out of the projector.
-
Updatability
The system is now updatable via 3 simple processors;
- network connection
- CD/DVD Rom inserted into the front of the unit, update occurs automatically
- USB Flash Ram device, again update occurs automatically
-
Editable Script Language
The new software utilizes a simple to follow scripting language, that is easy to read, and simple for the projectionist to re-program if necessary. The scripting language makes it possible for the projectionist to have full control and understanding of the digital playback system.
-
Image Quality
The image quality of the previous system did not achieve the optimum image when re-scaling the image for projection (a term referred to as ‘anti-alias’). The digitAll software always ensures the best possible conversion from the source material, to the projector requirements.
-
Removal of Macromedia’s dependence
The previous software required the production of a special, non-editable, Macromedia Director .exe file. The production of this file was very time consuming, and did not allow for any automation. It made the system a close device, with the projectionist unable to edit, or even inspect the playback operations.
These software enhancements have been essential for the ‘Moonlight Project – Cinema Advertising’ distribution department support of these cinemas, while greatly improving the image quality of the existing material, the upgrade has also opening up the market for the cinema advertiser to display moving images for the direct advertising clients.
