KINE Transfers (Video/Digital to 35mm Film transfers)

Television Commercials, Shorts, Features and Trailers

Our experience with Kine transfers began in the late 1990’s and since then we have produced well over 1000 transfers for cinema advertising, as well as numerous short films, features and trailers. During that time we have developed a range of tools and substantial expertise to ensure the highest quality transfers.

Digital Cinema has already begun, with a number of digital projection systems already installed in cinemas for both pre-show advertising and features. This development will continue into the future and we anticipate that within the next few years, all cinema advertising will be via digital projection. We are already providing digital encoding services to a number of clients for both cinema advertising and features, and we now provide an encoded master as part of our kine service.

Long format projects (features, shorts and trailers) are quoted on a case by case basis, for both film transfer and digital encoding, but we believe we offer the best quality at the best price.

Digital Intermediate: We can also offer a complete DI solution for film projects but we recommend that you talk to us in the early development stage, in order to develop the most cost effective production and post-production path.

Advertising Agencies:

You can now get your TVC’s transferred to 35mm film with just the CLICK of a button

Kine transfers of TVC's for cinema release on 35mm film can now be ordered directly through Adstream. In the same way as you process/select other orders with Adstream - you can now rely on Adstream to deliver your kine transfers as well.

You can still contact us directly for Kine services if you wish, however as a result of a recent partnership agreement between d-Cinema.com.au and Adstream – you can now just schedule your Kine transfer as another part of your order through Adstream.

Fast, Easy and a free Encoded Version as well. Regardless of whether you contact us directly or simply include your kine requirements on your Adstream order, our process is fast and easy and now includes the production of an encoded version of your TVC. Some Cinemas have already installed digital projection systems for pre-show advertising and we are providing digital encoding services to a number of clients for both pre-show advertising and features. In order to support cinema adverting clients, who are not yet familiar with the digital encoding process, we now include a free encoded master suitable for digital projection as part of our kine service. If you are advertising in cinemas that already have digital projection facilities, you can use the digitall encoded file instead of a film print.

Details of what we require and what we supply in our standard kine service are set out below:

  • We accept all standard Broadcast Tape formats (Digital-Betacam, HDCam, DVcam, DAT etc)
  • We accept data files on DVD or Hard Drive (image sequence or video file).
  • We utilize the latest digital enhancing techniques to resize images to film res.
  • Frame repositioning all cuts to SMPTE 1:1.85 ratio.
  • Replace & regenerate all graphics and supers to film 2K resolution (if required).
  • Transfer to 35mm film
  • Provide encoded master as data file on DVD
  • Dolby SR® standard.
  • Optional Dolby Digital®.
  • Audio must be provided with 3 separate Audio Tracks (Voice, Effects & Music) for Dolby Sound Mixing

Audio:

There are three audio options available when you order your kine. No matter which option you select for your kine, you will generally need to supply 3 seperate audio stems (voice, effects and music) in order to produce the necessary Dolby mix.

  1. Our standard transfer includes a Dolby SR ® audio mix and this is perfect for most transfers. It sounds great and will play back in every cinema in the country.
  2. If you want the maximum audio impact possible in cinemas, you may wish to include a Dolby Digital ® mix, however this will require additional Dolby ® licensing fees and additional time in the mixing studio, and so results in a higher cost for your kine transfer. It is also worth noting that not all cinemas are able to play back Dolby Digital ®, so your decision will also depend on where the commercial is to be released.
  3. Sometimes, when a campaign is particularly targeted at cinema, agency creative teams may want to be actively involved in the audio mixing process for a cinema commercial. In this case you may wish to organize the sound-mix directly with your preferred Dolby Certified sound house and simply supply the final mix to us. We will then include a quality check to confirm sound and picture synch before transferring the audio to optical sound negative.

Graphics and Supers:

When commercials are re-sized from Standard Definition television resolution to the much higher 2K film resolution, static graphics and supers often produce unsatisfactory results. Our kine transfer service includes the option of re-inserting static logos and supers at 2K resolution at no charge. This process can often be the difference between a commercial that looks like it was made for cinema, and one that was obviously “blown up” from television.

If you wish to take advantage of this option, you simply need to supply a superless sub-master as well as the television master and the required supers and logos as digital files at the required resolution and the graphics and supers will be reconformed at high resolution, at no charge.

If you wish to make additional changes or to have an approval stage for changes to high resolution, they will require a high resolution on-line suite and assocaited charges will be incurred.

If you are transferring a television commercial that has been mastered in High Definition then all supers and logos will be at a high enough resolution and will not require this additional treatment.
